This new choir, begun in 2019, provides positive and joyful experiences for those living with memory loss and their care partners. WAMK Chorale is a collaboration between Key Chorale and Jewish Family and Children’s Services of the Suncoast. Two eight-week sessions are planned for each year, led by Maestro Caulkins with the assistance of Key Chorale volunteer singers. The group explores the potential of people living with memory loss to experience renewed purpose, learning, friendships, and happiness. More than 30 singers participated in the inaugural semester and found the sessions uplifting, fulfilling and fun as well as an important part of their memory care.

Each semester Mr. Caulkins creates a unique curriculum of vocal exercises, breathing exercises, and musical selections around a theme which concludes with an end of session performance for friends and family.

“We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Key Chorale and Maestro Joseph Caulkins to bring the power of music into our program! Music therapy is known to have countless benefits for individuals suffering from neurocognitive diseases. Our participants and their loved ones are greatly looking forward to the musical camaraderie and experience.”

Macey Walker, Adult Day Services Manager at Senior Friendship Center

“Key Chorale has provided a unique opportunity to enhance the lives of persons with memory loss and their caregivers with the creation  of the  Where Are My Keys? Chorale. Under the expert guidance of Key Chorale’s Maestro Joseph Caulkins, the group meets weekly to enjoy an hour of singing favorite and familiar tunes. The 30 + participants raise their voices with smiles and energy.  There is a feeling of real accomplishment at the end of every session; the power of this music connection is a gift to all.”

Key Chorale launched their Come Together Choir Online Choral Rehearsals in March 2020. Since then more than 600 singers from all over the country have registered and participated. The first two volumes have had more than 6,000 views to date. Key Chorale launched their 3rd installment of Come Together Choir – Online Choral Rehearsals in spring 2021. This outreach isn’t just for local singers, but can be experienced by anyone, anywhere in the country via Key Chorale’s YouTube channel.

These episodes are shot from the perspective of the choir, focused on Artistic Director Joseph Caulkins as he guides 10 singers and YOU through each fun rehearsal. Every episode builds on the previous one, giving you a sense of accomplishment and of being right there. Although this is not an interactive experience, the project is conceived to give the feel of being right there as a singer in the choir. So turn up the volume and sing your heart out with the Come Together Choir!
