This choir provides positive and joyful experiences for those living with memory loss or dementia and their care partners. WAMK Chorale is a partnership between Key Chorale, Senior Friendship Center’s Adult Day Program, and Aravilla Memory Care.
Two eight-week sessions are planned for each year, led by Maestro Caulkins with the assistance of Key Chorale volunteer singers. These groups explores the potential of people living with dementia or memory loss to experience renewed purpose, learning, and friendships. The sessions are uplifting, fulfilling, and fun and are an important part of their care.
Listen to the podcast by Kerry Sheridan, WUSF’s NPR station for Tampa, Sarasota, and St. Pete intitled, “As memories fade, music sustains at a choir pairing Key Chorale singers with community elders”
“We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Key Chorale and Maestro Joseph Caulkins to bring the power of music into our program! Music therapy is known to have countless benefits for individuals suffering from neurocognitive diseases. Our participants and their loved ones greatly look forward to the musical camaraderie and experience.”

Even if he doesn’t remember that he went to a practice, he certainly remembers the words and melodies of the songs you choose; we often sing them on our walks or in the car.
