Matrick Thorpe

Matrick Thorpe (think Patrick with an “M”) is a local 18 year old contemporary/classical cellist.

He is a Pine View graduate pursuing a Psychology degree from the University of Florida while taking remote classes from Berklee School of Music.
Studying classical under the noted and beloved cellist, Ann Alton, he has received several performance scholarships and awards, most recently including: Sarasota Music Club/Artists Series competition, Clazz International Music Festival in Italy, Winold Chamber Festival, Cello Akademie Rutesheim in Germany and being awarded Superior with Distinction for the Florida State MPA.
Equally as passionate about contemporary/world music, Matrick participates in as many workshops as can be afforded (both virtually and in-person) and has embraced compositional studies with Eugene Friesen.
Though he loves performing locally with Strings Con Brio and The Pops -and his irrepressible love for music has led him to performing in orchestras, ensembles, studios and stages in 24 countries- one of his greatest passions is street performance, because he believes that music should be shared with everyone.
On that note, Matrick hopes to someday create accessible (fully-funded) opportunities for new and seasoned musicians to explore different genres and collaborative experiences where fun displaces fear of the musical unknown and is looking to study grant writing to fund said workshops.

In his spare time he is starting to compose both solo cello and student orchestra pieces for low to no-income music programs in schools and looks forward to sharing them in the future.

On the rare occasions that he is not talking about, writing or engaging in music… Matrick can be found enjoying good food, books, movies, D&D or writing the occasional short play.
