Winner of Chorus America’s 2020 Award for Education and Community Engagement

Our Education Vision: to partner with our community in order to provide musical opportunities and experiences that will nurture and enhance the educational growth of students of all ages in a lifelong passion and pursuit of music.

What began as a high school choral festival in 2013 has now evolved beyond a single concert collaboration to encompass the entirety of Key Chorale’s extensive music-in-education reaching more than 400 students each season. Education programs include:
Student Scholar Program
Visible Men Academy
Tomorrow’s Voices Today High School Choral Festival

“Key Chorale has made a consistent commitment to the future by working with high school choirs of the now. Through dedication and nurturing, Maestro Caulkins and the Key Chorale has taken an active role in engaging young people. Thank you for making a lasting impact—today and tomorrow.”

Brian Hersh, Program Director for Any Given Child in Sarasota Public Schools

2019-2020 Key Chorale Student Scholars

“This was my first year with Key Chorale and I cannot express how meaningful this experience has been. As I prepare for college, I know that the opportunities provided by the Key Chorale will give me an edge against my competition. It has widened my knowledge of repertoire, improved my sight reading skills, and taught me to be accountable for my own music. Singing with such a professional choir has taught me responsibility and I don’t think many other students can say that – unlike myself. Thanks to Key Chorale I know I will be prepared for college and beyond.”

Jillian Steffens, Key Chorale Student Scholar Alumni

Visible Men Academy

Since 2018, Key Chorale has partnered with Visible Men Academy, a charter school for at-risk K-5 boys, to provide a music program and experiences for the 100+ students who would not have any formal musical experiences without our involvement. Key Chorale singers and educators conduct hands-on music activities with students during a five-week program each semester. Each grade level is paired with a Key Chorale-approved music teacher, who includes grade-specific activities in music, sound and singing culminating in a final performance for family and friends.

“At Visible Men Academy, we believe that every boy we serve has gifts and that our task is to create an environment through which these gifts can emerge and flourish. Key Chorale is a key partnership that helps us make this belief and environment a reality. Our partnership with Key Chorale is invaluable. The resources and expertise they provide increase our capacity to serve our boys in a comprehensive way.”

This festival started in 2014 as a partnership with the Sarasota Public Schools, “Tomorrow’s Voices Today” in an intergenerational choral experience involving more than 200 students. Each year the High School Choral Festival showcases three Sarasota County high school choirs. Each school’s choir performs independently, then joins the 100+ trained voices of Key Chorale in a festival chorus that is led by Maestro Joseph Caulkins.

“Every year [Joseph] works with my students in preparation for MPA or Tomorrow’s Voices Today, bringing a sensitivity to the music that is truly inspiring. He bridges the gap between the technical aspects of music and the heart of each piece. My students and I appreciate him giving freely of his time and always learn so much.”

Seth Gardner, Director of Choral Activities at Pine View School

In the weeks leading up to the performance, Artistic Director Joseph Caulkins visits each high school to work with each choir individually on the festival repertoire. On the day of the concert, the three schools rehearse together with Key Chorale for several hours. “Tomorrow’s Voices Today” is a wholly unique choral festival experience, as it incorporates singers of all ages, from students to octogenarians.

This choral festival has inspired countless high school students by encouraging music-making at the highest level.
